Meet me: Sara-Jane Williams

Sara began working with James and Sam, co-founders of Surfwell, when Surfwell was little more than a dream. Sara was known for her strategy workshops and brand consultancy, having worked with global brands (including the British Army) as well as local businesses.

However, it was also her emotional attachment to the sea - and family experience of Policing - that combined to make her a great fit for Surfwell. Keen to ensure that our concept was professionally pitched, we sought her advice and soon secured the support of key groups and individuals. Sara went on to create our website and continues to keep us on our toes with new marketing ideas.

Both Sara’s father and grandfather dedicated their careers to the Police Force. “Finding new ways to help the blue-light community feels so important and is to the benefit of everyone. The team are the loveliest people and the aim of Surfwell CIC brings a great feel-good factor”, says Sara.

Sara also stresses the importance of Surfwell Ltd, because of it’s benefits to the wider public. Having spent years working on sailing ships around the Caribbean and Trans-Atlantic, and crewing yachts around Europe, Sara developed a strong affinity to the healing power of the sea. “Whether in person or just in my mind, the sea is where I go if feeling stressed, lonely or in doubt. It’s awe-inspiring and gives up a special medicine of its own. Even just recalling memories of times in, on or by the sea can provide a sense of calm and strength. I love that Surfwell can help everyone to experience that”.

Sara surfs but admits that she lost her confidence following the death of a friend. We took Sara out for a Surfwell session a few years ago and were delighted to hear it made all the difference. It was clear that having someone to talk to, in a unique environment that felt both exhilarating and safe, was the turning point she needed. “I met more of their instructors and had a genuine experience of Surfwell not as a consultant, but as a participant… as someone who needed them more than I had realised”, admits Sara. “It’s hard for anyone to truly appreciate the value of Surfwell until you’ve had a personal, direct experience of it. That day cemented my belief in Surfwell even further and so I’m delighted to have the opportunity to support the development of Surfwell as a volunteer”.
