Following a career in the Army, I joined the Devon and Cornwall Police in 2001 and have since completed 25 years of service. Most of my career has been spent on the frontline in proactive roles, such as a police dog handler and with the Force Support Group.
My long tenure has meant confronting many traumatic incidents, but I have been fortunate to maintain my mental health by identifying and leaning on my own coping strategies.

After moving to North Devon, I discovered a passion for surfing. I found it to be an incredibly effective way to reset my mindset and process difficult shifts. Complementing this, I learned the value of talking through my experiences with a close network of friends, rather than bottling things up.
When I learned about the Surfwell program, it's mission immediately resonated with my own personal journey. I was so impressed with how the founders, Sam and James, explained the concept that I jumped at the chance to join the team. For me, the chance to offer a listening ear and a meaningful day of surf therapy to a colleague is a truly rewarding experience.
